Poor Cotton

Well, I tried to kill Cotton again! I promise, these things don’t happen on purpose ~ but I think the Vet’s office is ready to call the pet DHR on me. I had a holiday yesterday, Jefferson Davis’ Birthday if you must know, and I let Cotton stay outside off & on all day. You know, give him a break from his prison, I mean kennel. So about 5 or 5:30, I had fed him and was taking him out again. On the doormat was an empty, chewed on tiny bag with bright green stuff on the edges. As soon as I saw it I knew it was the rat poison the pest control co. had put in the back yard. I felt just awful – Jimmy happened to call and I told him what was going on. He told me to call the vet’s office and they said to bring Cotton in ASAP. Jimmy came home and we took Cotton back into Montg. First they gave him peroxide to make him vomit to get as much of the poison out of his tummy as they could & then brought him back inside while the vet and an aide suited up in paper gowns. Cotton was sick again on their table – a bunch of green gunk came out. He just looked at me so sad! Then they took him back outside to give him liquid charcoal. This was to absorb the poison and remove it from his body – by vomiting or the other end! When they came back in they were both covered in black from him resisting and throwing it back up on them (which is why they needed the paper gowns!). They had washed him but he still had some black stuff on him. They also gave him a vitamin K shot and a bottle of Vit. K for him to take for the next 14 days. Someone there called him cotton and the vet said “is this Cotton who had a broken leg?” she looked at me like I was awful! Then she said his leg looked good and he sure had grown a lot. She last saw him at 5 lbs – he is at least 11 lbs. now. And 3 times as tall and long!!! Any way, we left and on the way home, he threw up all over me and it got on Jimmy’s car too! Jimmy concentrated on the car and I immediately took Cotton and put him in the shower. Thankfully we were able to clean up the car, Cotton and me without too much trouble. He did good last night and was ok. All the charcoal came out of everything. Oh yeah, Cotton turned 5 months old yesterday! Hope he makes it to his 1st birthday!!!
